Body Composition
DEXA scans with regional body composition and bone density
Overview
Import BodySpec DEXA scan results for the most detailed body composition data available: total and regional fat/lean/bone mass, appendicular lean mass, fat-free mass index, skeletal muscle index, limb symmetry, visceral fat volume, bone mineral density, and age-matched percentiles.
How the integration works
Body composition is a file-import integration rather than an OAuth connection — DEXA providers typically email or download a per-scan report rather than expose a user-level API. On upload Omnio parses the BodySpec export (with DexaFit and DexaLean formats on the roadmap) and extracts the scan date, total and regional fat mass, total and regional lean mass, bone mineral content and density, appendicular lean mass, visceral fat mass and volume, fat-free mass index, skeletal muscle index and the age-matched percentiles the clinic computes. Every region — arms, legs, trunk, android, gynoid, individual limbs — is stored as a discrete metric so you can track it independently, and subsequent uploads stack onto the same timeline. A single scan becomes a snapshot; two or three scans over a year become a trend. There is no ongoing sync: you import each scan as it lands, and Omnio takes care of aligning it with the rest of your health data.
What Omnio adds on top of Body Composition
A single DEXA scan is only mildly useful — its value really shows up across two to four scans over a year, when regional change starts to tell a story. Omnio's biggest differentiator is that it tracks every region between scans: an android-vs-gynoid fat-distribution shift, visceral adipose tissue creeping up while weight looks flat, lean mass added in the upper body versus the legs, limb-symmetry gaps that matter for injury risk — signals clinics rarely surface without a manual chart review. Omnio also uses your DEXA history as ground truth for your daily smart-scale readings: weekly Withings or Omron readings are plotted against the nearest DEXA, so bioimpedance drift shows up as a visible gap rather than being hidden inside two different apps. For athletes tracking hypertrophy, people recomposing on a cut, or older adults watching bone density, this is the only place all of that data actually lives on the same timeline and gets compared side by side.
Metrics We Sync
- Body fat %, lean mass & bone mineral content
- Regional breakdown (arms, legs, trunk, android, gynoid)
- Individual limb composition & symmetry
- FFMI, FMI & skeletal muscle index
- Appendicular lean mass (ALM)
- Visceral fat mass & volume
- Bone mineral density (BMD)
- Age-matched percentiles (5 categories)
Frequently Asked Questions
- What body composition data does Omnio import?
- Omnio imports DEXA scan results including total and regional fat/lean/bone mass, appendicular lean mass, fat-free mass index, skeletal muscle index, visceral fat volume, bone mineral density, and age-matched percentiles.
- How do I import DEXA scan results?
- Upload your BodySpec DEXA scan export file through the Omnio import page. Results are processed immediately and available in your dashboard.
- What DEXA scan providers are supported?
- Omnio currently supports BodySpec DEXA scan exports. The import captures the most detailed body composition data available from clinical-grade scans.
- How does Omnio compare to the BodySpec app?
- BodySpec gives you a PDF report per scan. Omnio imports every scan and tracks trends over time — overlaying body composition changes with your training load, nutrition, and recovery data.
- Can I track DEXA scan results alongside smart scale data?
- Yes. Omnio shows both DEXA gold-standard scans and daily smart scale readings on the same timeline, so you can see how well your scale tracks against DEXA reference points.
- What body composition metrics does a DEXA scan measure?
- DEXA measures total and regional body fat, lean mass, bone mineral content and density, visceral fat volume, appendicular lean mass, fat-free mass index, and skeletal muscle index — far more than any scale.
